The statutory basis of local authority library provision is the Public Libraries and Museums Act 1964. Section 7 says that, “It shall be the duty of every local authority to provide a comprehensive and efficient Library Service for all persons desiring to make use thereof…”
Any moves to cut our local libraries by the Tories and their Liberal puppets could be subject to legal challenge as shown above.
I often visit both our Carnegie and Crosby Libraries, they are always teeming with people of all ages, the internet access PC’s seem always fully occupied, language classes, art displays, libraries are a genuine hub of the community and most especially for the young and old.
If this sham, failing, treacherous government force our councils into closing our libraries, it will then be yet another case of them attacking our young and old to allow the greedy financial community it’s massive profits and bonuses.
Apart from possibly being illegal it would certainly be an outrage to cut or even reduce this valuable local service.
