We must not lose hope of saving our NHS from ConDem destruction. I thought you would be interested in the following correspondence between Lord David Owen and a member of ‘Keep Our NHS Public’ here on Merseyside.
John Usher – Victoria Ward committee & Bootle CLP General Executive Committee.
From: Susan England
Dear Lord Owen,
Thank-you so much for speaking out against these disastrous plans for the NHS. It seems like the House of Lords may be our only hope to defeat this abysmal piece of legislation.
I’m a dual UK/US citizen and worked as a Registered Nurse for 12 years in the USA before I moved to England in 1997. Private health-care companies are all about profit, and will cut any corner to wring the most money they possibly can out of a patient. I have plenty of horror stories I could share dealing with patients I cared for in the US. I’m still moved to tears when I recount these stories today.
Please stand your ground. The ordinary people are behind you. The only people who seem to be in favour of these “reforms” are the private health-care companies who stand to profit handsomely from this legislation and the politicians who are receiving money from these greedy companies. Quality patient care isn’t the objective of these “reforms;” making money for private health-care companies who back greedy politicians is the primary objective of these “reforms.”
Again, I thank-you so much for your strong stance on this issue. It’s re-assuring to know we have someone of your standing on our side.
Mrs. Susan England

Dear Mrs England
Thank you for both your letter and subsequent email. You might be interested to read a paper I published a couple of weeks ago entitled “Fatally Flawed” which can be found on my website: www.lorddavidowen.co.uk.
My fear is that there is too much concentration on the proposals for GP consortia. There is a lot more in this Bill which is highly undesirable and
should be changed.
