Brilliant win by our excellent candidate Councillor Les Byrom CBE in this ward. The vote doubled to 2258. We seem to have mobilised some of the disaffected or so-called “stay at home” Labour voters.
The chart below shows that the sitting LibDem Councillor managed to maintain his core vote in DEFEAT polling the same (+10) as in the last election (2007) as did the Tory (+2) with UKIP (+77). This shows that we can maintain a hold on this ward.
Many labour voters have told me they disliked the personal nature of the LibDem Councillor’s campaign literature, some of which crossed the parties informally agreed outlines in the light of the Phil Woolas misadventure.
