Autumn Statement

YVETTE COOPER MP Shadow Home Secretary on Twitter Page 46 of Autumn Statement shows government taking £1.2bn pa from families tax credits & £300m from banks. Three times as much from children as banks!!

Precise figures By 2014/15 £310m from banks. £1,020m from child tax credit. £275m from working tax credit.

RMT general secretary Bob Crow “George Osborne has ratcheted up the class war and has made it clear through his attack on pay and employment rights that he wants the workers to keep taking the hit while the rich get richer. After two years of a freeze, pay for millions of key workers will go up by 1% in the next two years. With inflation over 5%, and the increase in pension contributions, that means nurses and the others we rely on will be around 25% worse off after four years of this ConDem government while top bosses pay goes up by 12% a year. That’s a scandal.

The  Treasury’s distributional analysis (pdf) to accompany the autumn statement accepts that the tax and benefit changes will increase the number of children in poverty by “around 100,000 in 2012-13”.
